Here's A Brief History Of Justin Bieber's 52 Tattoos
On Thursday, Justin Bieber posted an Instagram photo showing off what many believe to be his 52nd tattoo.
At just 21 years old, Bieber is one tatted-up man. How did he get here? Here's a brief history of how the star got so inked.
Justin's first tattoo: a bird
When little Justin was just 16 years old, he got his first tattoo, a small bird on his left hip.
According to PopStart, Justin got inked in March 2010 at the Son of a Gun Tattoo and Barbershop in Toronto by a lifelong friend of his dad. The bird apparently represents the seagull from “Jonathan Livingston Seagull," a story about a seagull learning to fly.
Justin's seventh tattoo: a crown
In late August of 2012, Justin received this mysterious crown tattoo.
To date, Justin has never revealed the significance of this tattoo, though maybe there is no significance at all and he just really likes it. One working theory, by JustinBieberZone.com, is it's a symbol for being the new "king of pop."
Justin's eighth tattoo: an owl
Justin's 11th tattoo: roman numerals
Skipping ahead a few tattoos, in January 2013, Justin added a very special tattoo to his growing collection.
This time around, Justin decided to give his mother, Patricia, a shoutout on his bod by tattooing her birth year in roman numerals on his collarbone.
Justin's 12th tattoo: the Greek symbol for Christ
By February 2013, Biebs was no stranger to both tattoos and tattoos with religious significance.
Prior to inking himself with the Greek symbol for Christ (the big X on his left arm), the Biebs already received tattoos of praying hands, a portrait of Jesus and a Hebrew tattoo of the name "Jesus."
Justin's 25th tattoo: a jester
Just weeks after being accused by a neighbor of throwing eggs at his house, Bieber showed off this joker of a tattoo.
Justin's 26th tattoo: a compass
On January 12, 2014, Justin unveiled a compass on his left bicep. Although the meaning isn't entirely clear, one can assume it was the Biebs trying to find his own direction.
Justin's 47th tattoo: patience
By April 2014, Bieber had hella tattoos, but what's one more, right?
At that time, Bieber had the word "patience" tattooed down the side of his neck. He got the ink while in Flordia celebrating fellow pop star Austin Mahone's 18th birthday.

Justin's 52nd tattoo: angel wings
On December 11, 2015, Justin shared his 52nd tattoo (that we know of) with the world via Instagram with the simple caption, "new tattoo."
