'GOT' Revealed What Hodor's Name Means And This Fan Called It 8 Years Ago

I'm still in tears and at a loss for words after watching season six, episode five of "Game of Thrones" Sunday night.

Sure, Hodor never said much during his time on the show, but to watch him meet such an end while protecting the ones he loves pulled on every "GoT" fan's heartstrings.

As per usual, there are a ton of takeaways from the most recent episode of "Game of Thrones," but it appears the most popular talking point this Monday morning is the origin of Hodor's name.

Thanks to the drama of Sunday night, we now know what Hodor's name means, but before season six, episode five, it would've been impossible to even imagine that meaning.

Unless, of course, you're this dude.

Back in February 2008, someone started a thread in the "A Song Of Ice And Fire" Wiki in order to try to find the meaning behind Hodor's name.

Theories ranged from a dissection of the Croatian language to rumblings about Norse mythology, but user Myrddin, who I'm now calling Maester Myrddin, nailed the meaning behind Hodor's name right on the money.

Sure, that's not exactly what happened on the most recent episode of "Game of Thrones," but Myrddin predicting "Hold the door!" leads to "Hodor" is 100 percent accurate.

Uh, Myrddin, do you worship at the Red Temple of Volantis or something?

You could say this was just a lucky guess, but after watching "Game of Thrones" for years, I don't believe in coincidences anymore.
