They royally fancied each other. ❤️
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip first met as children at the future Duke and Duchess of Kent’s wedding in 1934. However, they didn’t have their first publicized meeting until 1939 — a meeting that prompted a seven-year courtship that involved plenty of letters. They got engaged secretly in 1946, and married on Nov. 20, 1947.
The duo was famously in love. Per NBC, after their wedding, Elizabeth wrote to her parents, “We behave as though we had belonged to each other for years. Philip is an angel – he is so kind and thoughtful.’’
On their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997, Elizabeth said of her husband, “He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.”
