Jughead And Betty Just Won A Teen Choice Award And 'Riverdale' Fans Are Losing It
In a year that's been filled with so many exciting, new television shows, it seems almost cruel to have to choose which ones win awards, am I right? Some shows like Riverdale, for example, make it a little easier, though. That being said, Riverdale won seven Teen Choice Awards on Sunday night. And while every single one was so well deserved, the fact that Betty and Jughead won the Teen Choice Award for Choice TV Ship is what has fans really freaking out.
The first award the show took home went to Cole Sprouse for Choice Drama TV Actor; the show went on to win surfboards in the categories for Choice Drama TV Show, Choice Breakout TV Show, Choice Breakout TV Star (Lilli Reinhart), Choice TV Ship (Betty and Jughead), Choice Hissy Fit (Madelaine Petsch), and Choice Scene Stealer (Camila Mendes), and I'm not at all surprised. Over the past eight months people have become obsessed with the series based on the Archie comic books, and fans are already eagerly looking forward to Season 2 of the show.
The CW drama only debuted in January; it, nonetheless, was nominated a whole bunch of times this year at the TCAs. The show itself earned nods in major categories for Choice Breakout TV Show and Choice TV Actor: Drama, the show's star, K.J. Apa, was up against Lili Reinhart for Choice Breakout TV Star, but he obviously lost, and the show also pulled in a nomination for one of the night's biggest awards: Choice TV Show: Drama, which it beat out powerful newcomers like This Is Us for. Still, it's Bughead that has everyone talking.
Though Riverdale wasn't successful in every category for which it was nominated, it is still a big deal for the show to be recognized after only one season alongside shows like Pretty Little Liars and actors/actresses like Ian Harding that have dominated the TCAs for years. All of these wins definitely mean we'll be seeing a lot more of Riverdale in the future. I'm sure this is only the first time the show will rack up plenty of award nominations and wins, especially at the Teen Choice Awards.
