Another day, another hit from the Despicable Me franchise. On July 1, the animated Minions: The Rise of Gru movie was released in theaters. Jack Antonoff helped make an absolute banger of a soundtrack. Obviously, Twitter can’t get enough of it.

Seriously, this album is stacked. Brittany Howard, St. Vincent, Verdine White, BROCKHAMPTON, Caroline Polachek, Thundercat, Gary Clark Jr., Tierra Whack, Jackson Wang, G.E.M., RZA, Bleachers, and Heitor Pereira also appear on the soundtrack. Oh, and the Minions themselves too.

Phoebe Bridgers delivered a bittersweet cover of The Carpenter’s ballad, “Goodbye to Love.” Honestly, I didn’t expect for her to leave me this teary-eyed on a workday afternoon, but I’m here for it.

All dramatics aside, Bridgers did what needed to be done on “Goodbye to Love.” This cover will have you mourning a relationship you’ve never been in.

When Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) recently yelled “This is music!” on Stranger Things, he surely wasn’t talking about the Minions soundtrack. But in this case? I certainly am.

There’s no other way to say it. Antonoff made a gem of a project. Get him (another) Grammy, now.

I love that Tierra Whack flexed her writing pen on this soundtrack. Come to think of it, I need to add her cover of Santana’s “Black Magic Woman” to my summertime playlist.

The hold that this Minions album has on everyone (including me) should be studied.

Even Antonoff had to give himself some well-deserved flowers for producing this soundtrack. As he should, because the reply value on this record will only sky-rocket this summer.
