The historic nature of the moment was not lost of fans.
Squid Game’s win made history as the first non-English language series to take home the actor statue at the SAG Awards in any category, and then took home three: Stunt Cast, Best Actress, Best Actor.
Jung Ho-Yeon’s win had fans in tears.
And Lee Jung-Jae’s win was proof the sweep was in the bag.
As Squid Game was an underdog coming in, assumed to lose out to critical darling Succession, the wins felt extra sweet.
Though Succession did take Best Ensemble, the losses in the individual acting categories were utterly unexpected.
Squid Game wasn’t the only one scoring historical wins. Over in the film categories, CODA did as well.
CODA’s two wins at the SAG Awards for Best Actor and Best Film Ensemble were historic as the first statues to go to a deaf actor and a majority deaf ensemble.
With these kinds of historical moments, fans who tuned into the show were very pleased.
Squid Game Season 1 is streaming on Netflix. Season 2 is expected later in 2022. CODA is streaming on Apple TV+.
