Instead of kicking off awards season, the controversy-plagued 79th Golden Globes accidentally answered the question, “If an award show happens and nobody sees it, does it matter?” Despite some history-making wins, these tweets that roast the 2022 Golden Globes say no.

With the Golden Globes canceled by NBC and boycotted by many, it’s wasn’t exactly your regular red carpet.

With the ceremony neither televised nor live-streamed, the only information about who won was on social media, in an increasingly weird set of tweets.

As NYT writer Kyle Buchanan noted, the tweets were so focused on being clever; they forgot to supply basic information, like what the recipients were winning for.

It wasn’t long before TV writers started equating the markedly strange announcements to another flailing PR campaign.

People started imagining who might be behind the posts.

For those who regularly cover the event in Los Angeles, the tweets at least made the award show feel like business as usual.

Of course, someone had to bring the comparisons to Fyre Fest.

Thankfully, since no celebrities showed up in person, embarrassing speeches were kept to a minimum.

Even without commercial interruptions, the ceremony still ran 30 minutes past its end time.

After that performance, at least everyone is looking forward to whatever oddity comes next year.

We have no choice but to stan.
