Past relationships are emotional touchstones.

When you think back on a bad breakup or a time you had your heart broken, it's easy to second-guess your decisions and what you could or should have done differently. And there's always that feeling of curiosity, of the what-if?

That's particularly true when you contemplate what your life would be like if you had stayed together. Wouldn't you just love to know what your ex's family and friends think of you now that it's over? And what about that dog (UGH, don't you miss that dog?) that loved you so much?

It's more or less impossible not to be curious about what — and, even more so, whom — the other person is doing.

So, what would you do if you were given the chance to go through your ex's phone? Would you read private messages, look at photos and maybe even reach out to the other person's new flame? Or would you run like hell?

What happened when we gave a bunch of people that opportunity? Here's a hint: Nobody ran.
