In the past few years, 90s nostalgia has become a constant source of joy in entertainment for Millennials trying to hold on to the past. While the mere mention of Beanie Babies and “Zoobooks” is enough to elicit warm and fuzzy feelings in any “real” 90s kid, you can't discuss the decade without addressing one of the influential aspects of the era: cartoons.

While you probably have fond memories of your favorite animated shows as a child, it's likely that they aren't as wholesome as you might remember. After having way too much free time on my hands in college, I re-watched some of the best Nickelodeon shows from my youth and was shocked to discover how many jokes went over my head back then.

I did a bit of research, and it turns out that almost every single show from my childhood had a dark side that I never realized existed. In an attempt to entertain parents or, in the case of one series, see how much they could get away with, many of these shows contain fairly mature jokes that most children would lack the education and experience to comprehend.
