You know the story. You go out, have a bit too much to drink and end up with the "drunchies."
It's the fun part of your night when you crave an insane amount of food, and most of the time, it’s probably not going to be the healthiest of choices.
While others might harp on the negative effects of the drunchies, we’re going to look at some of the greatest drunk foods to indulge in.
You deserve it.
1. Pizza
Pizza is great at any point in the day and in any state of mind, but it’s especially delicious when you’re trying to balance yourself and the box of pizza you’re carrying.
The hotness and the stringy cheese are unbeatable, and you can have pretty much any flavor you want. It also helpful that it probably soaks up a bit of the alcohol, too.
2. Fries
Give me all the salt! Paul Coleman, the president of the Maryhaven Addiction Recovery Center in Columbus, OH explained the reasoning behind this craving perfectly:
“The craving for salt is a natural craving after any dehydrating experience.”
This basically means that the more alcohol you drink, the more dehydrated you get, and the more you want salty foods.
3. Potato Chips
These are on this list for the same reason as above, except we all probably have crisps hanging around our cupboards. They are a quick, accessible snack before we pass out.
4. Fried Goodness
According to Men's Health, Purdue University conducted a survey that found alcohol also enhanced the taste of fat, meaning greasy, fried foods are a drunk person's favorite choice.
Think fried chicken, onion rings and hash browns. As long as it’s fried, you’ll probably crave it during at least one drunken encounter.
5. Kebabs
With the optional inclusion of salad, kebabs are a popular drunk snack for people who are trying to be good about what they eat.
It’s probably just as bad as the rest, but the combination of meat or tofu, salad, sauce and naan bread make for drunken delight.
6. Curry
Some people find curry or a hot dish is the perfect treat for the intoxicated. The spices may help mask the feeling of being drunk, while the side of rice will help to soak up any remaining alcohol.
7. Philly Cheesesteak
What can be better than the mix of sliced steak, cheese and a hoagie roll? Not much. And this meal will be sure to fill you up.
Chicken and vegan cheesesteaks are also available for the more alternative crowd.
8. Cereal
It’s the classic. You probably don’t even eat cereal for breakfast, so it’s always stored away in the cupboard, ready to be a late-night snack.
It's even better if it comes in bizarrely bright colors or weird shapes, to keep "drunk you" entertained and happy.
We all have our own drunken food moments, and some might be a bit more weird than others.
But, it’s always fun to wake up in the morning and try to figure out what the hell you ate.
By using your hungover detective skills, you can scan through the remaining crumbs and wrappers you wake up next to.
Just be sure to drink and eat responsibly!
