For more than 21 years, I lived in the same city. This city granted me lots of opportunity: I made ever-lasting friendships, earned a post secondary education and was taught work ethic and the value of establishing key relationships with my peers.
However, I quickly outgrew my environment. I began to feel bored and unhappy with the life I was living.
This is the issue many of us face: When we are unhappy, we decide to succumb to it rather than search for a path out of it. Why? It’s easier to stay within our comfort zone than to face a challenge.
After I recognized I had outgrown my town, I knew I had to move on. I had to move to a place that offered me more opportunity in what I wanted to do for my career. I decided to follow my instincts of moving to a big city, across the country and on my own.
Below I list the four key reasons why I decided to take a chance and never look back:
If You Don’t Jump At The Opportunity, Somebody Else Will
We tend to forget that we aren’t the only people trying to live our dreams. Each and every one of us has goals we want to achieve, the only difference is some of us fight harder than others to achieve them.
The first lesson associated with trusting your instincts comes from simply understanding that if you do not jump at the opportunities that may arise, someone else will. The worst feeling in the world is watching someone else achieve something that could have been yours.
The More Challenging The Task, The Greater The Reward
The most influential people in the world have had their fair share of challenges along the road to success. When a challenging opportunity arises and your gut is telling you to pursue it, go for it.
The most difficult tasks generally have the greatest outcome. Learning to go out of your comfort zone and take on new responsibility is extremely beneficial to both your personal and professional life.
You Have Veto Power
It is extremely important that you respect the opinions and concerns of others when it comes to your career. However, at the end of the day, it is your life, which means you have veto power when it comes to decisions regarding your future and happiness.
People may question your judgment, but this is just another opportunity to prove what you are truly capable of. Also, the craziest ideas make the best stories, right?
You Can Never Read The Future
Nobody on this planet can read into the future and let you know if following your instincts will lead to a positive result. But, I can tell you that if you never trust yourself, you will never know.
There will be challenges, there will be times when you want to quit and there definitely will be times when you are mad at yourself, but if you continue to believe in yourself and your passion, you will get to the finish line.
Taking a chance and never looking back is the only way you truly get to live a happy life. Whether it is applying for the job of your dreams, studying what you love or moving across the country in hopes of making a name for yourself in your field of work, nobody controls your future but you.
