If You Buy 1 New Apple Product This Fall, Make It The AirPods Pro 2

They’re better than the OGs in every way.

by Collette Reitz

Noise-cancelling AirPods first hit the scene in October 2019. Nearly three years after the AirPods Pro debut, the second-generation AirPods Pro are here, available Sept. 23, and they improve on the original headphones in almost every way. Here’s what you can expect.

More Ear Tip Sizes

A new extra-small size is a very welcome addition for anyone who has had trouble keeping the headphones in their ears. Check if you’re wearing the right size with the Ear Tip Fit Test.

Apple

New H2 Chip

The successor to the H1, this chip is what makes all the upgrades to Active Noise Cancellation and sound improvements possible.

Better Active Noise Cancellation

Say goodbye to airplane noise. AirPods Pro 2 block up to *twice* as much outside noise as the original AirPods — and you’ll definitely notice.

Apple

Improved Transparency Mode

With AirPods Pro in Transparency Mode, you’ll now hear the exact frequency of people’s voices, which makes it so much easier to hear what’s going on around you without taking out your headphones.

Apple

New Adaptive Transparency

AirPods Pro will now automatically reduce loud noises like sirens and honking horns. You’ll still hear everything around you, but, for example, a 120 decibel noise, will be brought down to 85 decibels.

Adaptive Transparency Mode (Cont.)

Wearing your AirPods Pro 2 in noisy environments, like at a concert, will preserve the sound quality of what you hear, but again, bring it down to a more manageable decibel.

New Touch Control For Volume

Easily adjust the volume of your music or podcast by swiping your finger up or down the stem of AirPods Pro. It adjusts by one increment at a time for gradual change.

Apple

Personalized Spatial Audio

After you set up your profile with your True Depth Camera, you’ll hear music tuned for your unique perception of sound, based on the size and shape of your head and ears.

Apple

More Listening Time

Get up to 6 hours of listening time on one charge with ANC enabled, 1.5 hours more than the original AirPods Pro. A fully charged case (with five full recharges) will get you up to 30 hours of listening time.

Apple

More Charging Options

When your Lightening cord is unavailable, you can charge your new AirPods Pro 2 case with an Apple Watch charger as well as MagSafe and any Qi-certified chargers.

Apple

Lanyard & Case Speaker

Hold on to your AirPods Pro with the new lanyard loop (lanyard isn’t included) and a louder case speaker when you try to locate it.
