Apple’s new AirPods Pro 2 will launch on Sept. 26. Ahead of the drop, take a look at how the new earbuds improve up many of your favorite features from the OG AirPods Pro, which launched in October 2019.
The Pros 2 have a more immersive listening experience with a new feature called Personalized Spatial Audio. According to Apple, it “works with the TrueDepth camera on your iPhone to create a custom profile based on your head’s geometry.”
Second-generation AirPods Pro cancel out up to two times more noise, and the new Adaptive Transparency mode lets you hear your surroundings more clearly.

An added touch control lets you swipe up or down to adjust the volume. They also keep the force sensor to play, skip, and pause audio, answer and decline calls, and switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode.
A more powerful H2 chip replaces the H1 chip from the AirPods Pro. It provides even better noise cancellation, three-dimensional sound, and a more efficient battery.
Expect extended listening time with the AirPods Pro 2 with up to 6 hours on a single charge, compared to 4.5 hours with the Pro. A fully charged case will give you up to 30 hours of battery, compared to 24 hours previously.
AirPods Pro came with three pairs of silicone tips in sizes S, M, and L. The new AirPods Pro 2 expand the range to include an XS silicone tip for a better fit for smaller ears.
AirPods Pro 2 look the same upon first glance, but look closer and you’ll notice minor design changes. The case now has a lanyard loop to attach your AirPods to you so you won’t lose it again.
In the case that you do lose it, the new case has a built-in speaker that plays a sound when using Find My to track your AirPods. A new U1 chip makes searching easier with Precision Finding so you can locate its exact place.
There are many ways to charge your AirPod Pros — with a lightning cable, MagSafe charger, or Qi-certified charger. Apple announced that you can also charge the new AirPods Pro 2 with an Apple Watch charger.
With improvements to Active Noise Cancellation, sound quality, and more, you may want to consider upgrading your AirPods Pro to the second generation. With the same price as the OG, they are an especially great option if you’ve been pondering an AirPods Pro purchase for a while.
