No One Knows What To Say About Italy’s Weird Olympic Outfits

Are they ponchos? Flags? Robes? IDK what to think.

On Twitter, Italy’s outfits sparked an immediate and lively reaction. This included questions as to what exact article of clothing the European country’s patriotic garbs are made of.

For one Twitter user, the outfits recalled a memorable look Homer Simpson wore years ago.

For another, the unique outerwear recalled a comfortable home staple: the Snuggie.

Olympic attire has long been the subject of fervent discussion. Over the summer, Team USA was in the hot seat.

Soon enough, Italy will have a chance to respond to their sartorial doubters. The Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo will host the 2026 Winter Olympics.

According to Bloomberg, Italy’s honor as the next host of the Winter Olympics meant they walked in the penultimate spot in the opening ceremony’s procession of teams. The were followed by China, the host nation.

According to the Associated Press, snowboarder Michela Moioli served as Italy’s flag bearer. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, she won Italy’s first snowboarding gold medal.
