People Create Moving Artwork Of 3-Year-Old Syrian Refugee Who Drowned (Photos)

by Taylor Ortega

Tragedy inspired tributes from Twitter users mourning the death of 3-year-old Aylan Kurdi.

Kurdi's body was found washed ashore on Ali Hoca Point Beach in Turkey after the boat he shared with his mother, brother and other Syrian refugees seeking to escape ISIS-occupied Kobane sank on its way to the Greek island Kos.

Tagging the works of art #KiyiyaVuranInsanlik, or "humanity washed ashore," many users created gentle depictions of the innocent child.

Some users altered the photograph published Wednesday to make political statements in the hopes of inspiring action.

According to the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR, Kurdi is one of 2,500 people who lost their lives this year attempting to cross the Mediterranean to safety.
