Plucking Your Nose Hairs Can Actually Kill You, So Beauty Really Is Pain

We've all heard the age-old saying, "Beauty is pain."

Woman are constantly finding ways to torture themselves in the pursuit of beauty, whether it's cramming their poor feet into 6-inch stilettos or shoving needles in their face to keep their skin looking eternally youthful.

Seriously, don't even get me started on the sheer hell that is known as waxing.

Yep, I think most ladies would agree that unwanted hair is probably the biggest bane of every woman's existence.

But if your beauty routine happens to include plucking a few rouge nose hairs here and there, you might want to put down the tweezers.

Yanking those pesky hairs out of your nose can make you drop-dead gorgeous. Literally.

Yep, it turns out that plucking your nose hairs can actually kill you because it can lead to fatal infections.

Apparently, we can all blame this thing in the middle of our faces known as the "danger triangle" for the hairy situation that can ensue from ripping out your nose hairs.

Dr. Erich Voigt, otologist at NYU, told Business Insider,

The nose filters the air that we breathe in. Nose hairs help filter large particles. Plucking vibrissae [aka nose hairs] can cause a large problem because germs live at the base of the hair follicle and when the hair follicles are pulled out, the germs can get inside and cause an infection. These infections are extremely dangerous and can be lethal. The veins that drain the blood from the nose lead to the same veins that drain the brain. Germs can travel front to back through those veins and induce meningitis or brain abscesses.

Now, before you have a vanity-induced panic attack, this doesn't necessarily mean that you have to surrender to your strands and walk around with two bushels of unsightly hair sprouting from your nostril.

Instead, you simply need to switch out your tweezers for a small scissor and trim your nose hairs, making sure that you don't cut the hairs to close to those germy follicles.
