Donald Trump's New Ad Will Make Your Eyes Roll — Especially If You're A Woman
Donald Trump has released a new video celebrating the role of women in America, and a lot of people have issues with the ad.
To be clear, his latest comments are actually accurate — they fully recognize the vital importance of women and how they helped build America.
There's only one teeny, tiny problem with what Trump says in the video.
His words directly contradict a catalogue of disgusting misogynistic statements he has made over the years, so it isn't exactly easy to believe our POTUS.
The clip was posted on Twitter and Instagram mere hours after it was revealed Vice President Mike Pence refuses to eat with women who aren't his wife.
In the video, which you can watch on Trump's @POTUS Twitter account, he says,
American women in every generation have shown extraordinary grit, courage and devotion. Our present generation stands on the shoulders of these titans, and that's what they were and are — titans. Only by enlisting the full potential of women in our society, will we be truly able to — you have not heard this expression before — make America great again.
OK, fine.
Now, with a little help from the women of Elite Daily, let's compare each line of the video with a classic Trump quote that should never be forgotten.
"American women in every generation have shown extraordinary grit, courage and devotion."
"Our present generation stands on the shoulders of these titans, and that's what they were and are — titans."
"Only by enlisting the full potential of women in our society will we be truly able to — you have not heard this expression before — make America great again."
The video is complemented by triumphant music while a crowd of women stand up to applaud the president's speech.
(BTW, we made more signs. You can check them out over here.)
People on Twitter were quick to call the president out...
Some reminded him why his words seem hollow.
Others advised what he can actually do to help women...
...oh, and then there's these old tweets from the president himself.
Sorry, Donald.
It's going to take more than three sentences to undo years of misogyny, the lack of women you've appointed to key government positions and the atmosphere of fear you've spread across the country.
