20 Celebrity Couples Who Have Been Together For What Seems Like Forever
"Hollywood relationships always last," said no one ever. But it's understandable why celebrity couples split more often than not, seeing as they have to date under constant public scrutiny. TBH, I'm impressed that any Hollywood couples have been able to withstand the pressures of stardom. There are some celebrity couples who have been together through thick and thin, and they are living proof that true love prevails any challenge. (It also doesn't hurt that their love stories are adorable AF.)
Some celebrities have lasted for several years before going their separate ways — let's not forget about Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler, and Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama, to name just a few of the celeb breakups that have left me shook over the years. But an impressive few have stood the test of time, and they deserve a round of applause. Some of these long-term celeb couples broke up along the way before getting back together. Some were dating other people when they met. Some simply weren't feeling sparks initially — and yet it all worked out in the end. Here are just some Hollywood couples who have been together for what seems like forever.
Beyoncé and JAY Z
Though Beyoncé first met JAY Z when she was 18, the two didn't start dating until a year-and-a-half later. After they appeared together on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s November 2001 music issue, JAY Z revealed they had just starting dating at the time. In typical Beyoncé fashion, the two pulled off a secret wedding in JAY Z's Manhattan penthouse apartment in April 2008, and the couple has since welcomed three children: Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
After spending several years as friends, Kimye made their official debut as a couple in April 2012, when they stepped out together in New York City. Just a year-and-a-half later, Kanye spared no expense when he proposed to Kim on her 33rd birthday at AT&T Park in San Francisco. The two tied the knot in May 2014 in Florence, Italy, and together they share four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
Barack and Michelle Obama
Barack and Michelle first met in 1989, when Michelle was assigned to be Barack's mentor at Sidley Austin LLP, the law firm where they both worked. Just a month later, Barack convinced a reluctant Michelle to let him take her on a date. The future president proposed to Michelle in 1991 at a dinner intended to celebrate Barack passing the bar exam, and in October 1992, the two got hitched at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. Since then, they've welcomed two daughters, Malia and Sasha, and — oh yeah — spent eight years side-by-side in the White House.
Kevin and Danielle Jonas
The oldest Jo Bro and his future wife met in the Bahamas in May 2007 while they were both vacationing with their families. Kevin managed to get Danielle's phone number from her older sister, and the two stayed in touch after the vacation ended, eventually becoming boyfriend and girlfriend. In July 2009, Kevin flew directly from a Jonas Brothers concert in Vancouver to New Jersey in order to propose to Danielle, and in December of that same year, they got married in Oheka Castle on Long Island. The couple has two daughters, Alena and Valentina.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi
The two funny ladies first crossed paths at a party in 2000, when Portia wasn't yet out. Though they immediately hit it off, the pair didn't start dating until 2004 after reconnecting at VH1's Big in '04 Awards. In August 2008 — shortly after the Supreme Court of California legalized same-sex marriage — Portia and Ellen said "I do" in an intimate ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.
Prince William and Kate Middleton
Though they first met as new students at University of St Andrews in 2001, William and Kate didn't become an item until the end of 2003. The pair briefly split in 2007, but just a few months later, they were back together again. William proposed to Kate in October 2010 during a trip to Kenya with friends, and they tied the knot in April 2011 in London's Westminster Abbey. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have since welcomed three kids: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis
In 1998, Ashton and Mila met as castmates on That '70s Show, where they played on-and-off-again couple Kelso and Jackie. However, their own romance didn't begin until years later, after Ashton separated from Demi Moore and Mila split from Macaulay Culkin. The two reconnected at the 69th Golden Globe Awards in 2012 and shared their first (off-screen) kiss at Mila's housewarming party later that month. A little over two years later in February 2014, the couple got engaged, and in July 2015, they made things official with a top-secret ceremony. They now have two kids, Dimitri and Wyatt.
Sean and Catherine Lowe
Sean and Catherine met during the 17th season of The Bachelor, when Catherine beat out 25 other contestants and won Sean's heart. He proposed to Catherine during the finale in Thailand, and luckily, she accepted. Their televised wedding took place in Santa Barbara in January 2014, and they have three children: Isaiah, Samuel, and Mia.
Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively
Green Lantern may not have been a commercial success, but it succeeded in introducing Ryan and Blake back in 2010. By the end of the year, Blake had split from Penn Badgley and Ryan had filed for divorce from Scarlett Johansson, making them both single. After months of rumors, Ryan and Blake's relationship was confirmed in October 2011. They quietly married in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, in September 2012, and they've since had three kids together: James, Inez, and a third child whose name they have yet to announce.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith
Will and Jada met back in 1994 when Jada auditioned to play Will's girlfriend on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Will was instantly smitten (even though Jada didn't land the role). The two dated for three years before Will proposed in November 1997, and just over a month later, they tied the knot on New Year's Eve at The Cloisters in Baltimore. Will and Jada have since welcomed two kids, Jaden and Willow, and Jada is also the stepmother of Trey, Will's son from his first marriage.
David and Victoria Beckham
David and Victoria's courtship was a bit of a whirlwind. The soccer star and the former Spice Girl first met at a charity football match in Manchester, where, apparently, Victoria was a bit tipsy at the time. Just a year later, during a press conference in January 1998, they announced their engagement. They got hitched at Luttrellstown Castle near Dublin in July 1999, and now the couple shares four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
Karlie Kloss and Josh Kushner
You may have forgotten about this celeb couple until Tyler Neaslonley made that awkward dig on Project Runway, but the model and the investor have actually been together for the better part of a decade. It's unclear how they first met, but Karlie revealed in a 2016 tweet that they first crossed paths in June 2012. The notoriously private couple didn't get engaged until six years later, when Josh popped the question during a weekend getaway to upstate New York. Their intimate wedding ceremony also took place upstate in October 2018.
Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo
Adam and Behati were introduced by a mutual friend when the Maroon 5 frontman was looking for a model who'd be willing to pull off some stunts in a music video. Though Behati didn't end up accepting the job, the two continuing emailing and — after a month of email correspondence — finally met in person. They made their red carpet debut as a couple in October 2012 at the GQ Gentlemen’s Ball, and after a brief split, the couple reconciled and got engaged in July 2013. The pair wed a year later in Los Cabos, Mexico, and they've since welcomed two daughters, Gio and Dusty.
Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock
Kelly and her talent manager hubby, Brandon, met all the way back in 2006 through Brandon's father, Narvel (who is Clarkson's manager). However, they didn't start dating until after Brandon's divorce in 2012, when they reconnected at the 2012 Super Bowl. After less than 10 months of dating, Brandon proposed, and they got hitched just a few months after that in October 2013 at Blackberry Farms in Tennessee. Together, they've welcomed two kids, River and Remington, whom they are raising alongside Brandon's two children from his previous marriage, Savannah and Seth.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka
Neil and David first crossed paths in 2004 at a mutual friend's American Idol viewing party. They started off as friends (as David was already in a long-distance relationship), but a week after the chef became single, the two went out on their first date. After a few years of quietly dating, NPH publicly came out during an exclusive interview with People in 2006. Soon after, David proposed to NPH, but they didn't announce their engagement until years later, when the Marriage Equality Bill was passed by the New York State Senate in 2011. They tied the knot in Italy in September 2014, and have twins, Gideon and Harper.
Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell
When Kristen and Dax were first introduced at a dinner party in 2007, they'd both just gotten out of long-term relationships, and apparently, Kristen wasn't feeling a spark. However, Dax eventually won her over and they started dating, though their relationship had a pretty tumultuous start. They took a three-month break at one point, but after starring alongside each other in 2009's When in Rome, they announced their engagement in February 2010. The two decided to delay their wedding until same-sex marriage was legalized, and after Prop 8 was overturned in June 2013, they had a (very) low-key ceremony at the Beverly Hills Courthouse in October 2013. Together, they've welcomed two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.
Chip and Joanna Gaines
Though Chip and Joanna graduated from Baylor University three years apart, they didn't meet for the first time until after college. In 2001, Chip saw a photo of Joanna behind the counter at her dad's auto shop, and he knew he had to meet her. He frequented her dad's shop until he finally managed to run into her and ask her on a date. They dated for a year before Chip brought Joanna to a jewelry store to design her own engagement ring. In May 2003, they tied the knot at the Earle Harrison House in Waco, Texas, the same spot where they had their first date. Now the Fixer Upper hosts have five kids: Drake, Ella, Duke, Emmie, and Crew.
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel
Justin and Jessica first met when Jessica attended a birthday party Justin was throwing for one of his friends in early 2007. Justin got Jessica's digits from their mutual friend, and by May 2007, the couple had gone public with their relationship. The duo briefly went their separate ways in 2011, but then in December of that year, Justin proposed to Jessica during a trip to Montana. They married in the Italian countryside in October 2012, and they've since welcomed a son, Silas.
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski
Emily first met John in 2008 while having dinner with a friend in an LA restaurant, as the friend knew John and insisted on introducing the two. The actors had their first date that same year, and less than a year later, they announced their engagement in September 2009. They tied the knot in August 2010 during a small ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, and they've since welcomed two kids, Violet and Hazel, and produced two major movies together.
Whenever you're feeling down on love, just remember that these 20 couples have faced cheating rumors, professional failures, and the paparazzi together, and they're still going strong. If true love can keep them together, then it must exist.
