Twitter Has A Theory That This Sexual Taylor Swift Song Is About Karlie Kloss
I had someone tweet at me that I wasn't giving enough credit to one possible muse of Reputation — Karlie Kloss. One of Swift's closest friends, Kloss is a model, computer wizard, and overall national treasure. Well, today, I'm seeking justice for the model with one particular fan theory. People are wondering — is "Dress" about Karlie Kloss? There are some very surprising arguments on Twitter that point to yes.
Of all the songs on Reputation, "Dress" definitely has the sexiest lyrics. It has a totally different feel to it than any of Swift's previous songs. The lyrics to "Dress" begin,
Our secret moments
In your crowded room
They've got no idea
About me and you
There is an indentation
In the shape of you
Made your mark on me
A golden tattoo
All of this silence and patience, pining and anticipation
My hands are shaking from holding back from you (ah, ah, ah)
All of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting
My hands are shaking from all this (ha, ha, ha, ha)
The first indication that this song could possibly be about Karlie Kloss is that Swift mentions her and the person are in a "crowded room" and hiding their relationship from everyone. Seldom has Swift attended a party with a rumored boyfriend, but she and BFF Karlie Kloss have been to many events together.
Next, "a golden tattoo" probably signifies someone with golden hair. HELLO, KARLIE KLOSS IS AS BLONDE AS IT GETS.
The chorus is where fans really begin to strengthen their theories,
Say my name and everything just stops
I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off, take it off (ha, ha, ha)
Carve your name into my bedpost
Cause I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off, take it off (ha, ha, ha)
The lyrics, "Cause I don't want you like a best friend" are definitely driving fans to believe this song is about Kloss. People are suggesting that Swift likes Kloss as more than just a friend. Hmmm...
In fact, fans are really hoping "Dress" is about Kloss.
Swift continues in "Dress" to say that this person stuck by her and always saw the good, even when things were going bad. The lyrics say,
Even in my worst times, you could see the best of me
Flash back to my mistakes
My rebounds, my earthquakes
Even in my worst light, you saw the truth in me
That does sound like a close friend and someone who deeply knows the singer.
Swift laying low for the past year brought up questions if her and Kloss were still as close of friends. They haven't been photographed doing anything together in a long time. A source from E! News cleared up if Taylor Swift and Karlie Kloss are still friends,
Taylor and Karlie are doing well as friends. They had NO falling out what so ever. They still speak but have been slammed with crazy schedules on both sides. Karlie had many prior commitments — that's why she was not involved in a few of Taylor's music projects like she was last year. They are still good friends though.
That's a relief. I'm sure they're as close as ever, but Swift creating Reputation and staying out of the public eye is a tough combo to sustain a public friendship.
We will probably never know for sure who each track of Reputation is about, including "Dress." The fan theories have all been pretty solid, and I've seen strong arguments for many of them. So, is "Dress" about Karlie Kloss? I can't say for sure, but it would be so, so amazing if it was.
