Planned Parenthood Created A Video Series With Cats To Teach You All About Your Vagina

by Annakeara Stinson

I'm sure you don't need another reason to love Planned Parenthood, but I'm about to give you one anyway. The women's health organization recently released a series of videos to teach us all about vaginas, and that series just so happens to feature real, live, furry kitties to help drop those #TruthBombs. Yes, capitalizing on everyone's favorite synonym for the vag, Planned Parenthood’s "How To Take Care Of Your Pussy" video series, which is narrated by comedian Sasheer Zamata, includes a collection of installments to tell us all about how vaginas work, what they are exactly, and how best to keep everything down there in healthy, working order.

And let me tell you, you're definitely going to learn something. The first episode of the series is called "Meet Your Vagina and Vulva," and it clears up all the confusion people often have when it comes to properly differentiating the two body parts (which are definitely different, BTW).

In case you'd like to know yourself, as the video explains, the vulva refers to all the external and outer parts of the genitals. This includes the outer labia, inner labia, the clitoris, the urethral opening, and the vaginal opening. The vagina itself is actually a "soft stretchy tube" that lives between your vulva and your cervix.

The vagina is internal — it's not those outer parts, which is what many people (even myself, once upon a time) often think.

The video also notes that everybody's vulvae are unique to them and will look totally different depending on the person. Like thumbprints or smiles, everybody's got their own, and their own style, too, from fully fluffed to styled and trimmed, to totally hairless.

Whatever yours looks like is a beautiful thing, and however your want to keep it decorated is just as beautiful, too.

The second episode of the series dives head first into sex and masturbation. Planned Parenthood gets super real with how masturbation can be a very awesome and super pleasurable way to explore your body and find out what feels good to you, with or without the use of toys or lube. It's all normal, and it's undoubtedly worth taking the time to explore and know yourself down there. It might even help you feel more connected to your overall sense of self.

The women's health organization also notes in its video that it's just as rad if masturbation (or sex) simply isn't your thing. It's all about what feels right for your body.

The last episode, "Keeping it Clean and Healthy," talks about taking care of your pussy's health and hygiene, reminding us that the vag is actually self-cleaning, so you definitely don't need to douche or get up in there to wash inside your body.

Oh yeah, and the video also talks about discharge and how it's completely normal, while providing a little guide as to what colors are usual, and which ones might indicate you have an infection or something else goin' on.

The third installment also reminds us to keep on top of medical check-ups, including things like STD tests, HPV tests, and the Pap smear.

Now, this isn't the first time Planned Parenthood has produced some stellar video content, as it also has pieces about, for example, consent, the realities of bisexuality, and how to tell someone you have an STD. These are all totally the kinds of things that should be included in sex education courses for young adults around the country, amirite?

So, while the video series is fun, short, and dare I say, adorable, each clip is packed with really useful and important information about your health, particularly details that are often largely misunderstood by most people.

Well played once again, Planned Parenthood. Or, should I say, ahem, meow.
