Selena Gomez Wasn't Nominated For Any Grammys & Fans Are Pissed

Get ready for some music drama, people. The 2018 Grammy nominations were announced the morning of Tuesday, Nov. 28. JAY-Z leads with eight nominations, and Kendrick Lamar follows right behind him with seven. One person who isn't nominated in any category is Selena Gomez, and her fans are pissed. Selena Gomez's 2018 Grammys snub has her fans on Twitter in a frenzy, but there's a solid reason that could explain why she wasn't nominated.

First of all, she didn't release an album this year, so that's a big factor. It is true, however, that she's had a lot of successful singles this year ("It Ain't Me" is one of 2017's top singles) and was one of the top streaming artists of 2017, so it makes sense that Selena stans would be angry that she wasn't given any recognition for that. It's notable that her other fellow former Disney stars, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato, released albums this year that were possibly eligible for nominations (as long as their work was submitted by the cutoff date), but as we all well know after Beyoncé's Album of the Year snub last year, the Grammys aren't the be all, end all of the music business. (Beyoncé is nominated along with JAY-Z in the Best Rap/Sung Performance for their song "Family Feud" off of 4:44, by the way.)

No matter the reason for Gomez's snub, her fans are pissed.

Selena Gomez's BFF Taylor Swift is nominated in two categories, but neither of the songs are from Reputation. If you're confused about why Reputation wasn't nominated, don't be.

Swift's Reputation came out too late in the year to be eligible for the 2018 Grammys. You can most definitely expect Reputation to receive Grammy nominations next year because, well, Swift always gets them. She's currently nominated for writing the song "Better Man" for Little Big Town and for "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," her collaboration with Zayn Malik for the 50 Shades Darker soundtrack. "Look What You Made Me Do," however, was released in August and was therefore technically eligible for nominations. Some fans are pissed it wasn't nominated, but it's possible Swift didn't even submit the song for eligibility and is waiting for next year to do so.

If you can remember, Frank Ocean purposefully did not to submit Blonde for eligibility at the 2017 Grammys because he doesn't feel the show fairly represents the entirety of the music industry. So yes, an artist can decide whether or not they want their music considered for a Grammy, so it's possible Swift didn't submit "Look What You Made Me Do."
