Only Men Were Nominated For Golden Globes’ Best Director & Twitter Is Furious
The 2018 Golden Globe nominations were announced the morning of Dec. 11, and while fans are happy for some nominated shows and films, there's an obvious hole in the list that has fans pissed. There are no women nominated in the Best Director category at the Golden Globes, and it's making fans so upset. The Golden Globes Best Director snub has people the most upset for Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig. To pour even more salt in the wound, Wonder Woman wasn't nominated for any Golden Globes. Yup, not one. Not even Best Original Score. Seeing as Wonder Woman was one of the most positively reviewed films of the year and Jenkins' directing has been heralded as some of this year's best work, fans expected better. Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird is also getting Oscar buzz, so fans are confused why neither of these women were nominated in the Best Director category. Also snubbed in the Best Director category is Jordan Peele for Get Out, another one of the year's most critically acclaimed films.
This raises concern about Gerwig and Jenkins' chances of being nominated for Best Director at the Oscars this year. Warner Bros. has decided to submit Wonder Woman for Oscar consideration — a move typically not done by superhero movies. So, this Golden Globes snub could be a foreshadowing of what we can expect at the Oscar nominations. Gerwig's snub is even more surprising, however, seeing as Lady Bird is now the highest-rated film of all time on Rotten Tomatoes. At a 99 percent approval rating, not one critic has had anything bad to say about Lady Bird. It seems only natural that the director of the most positively-reviewed film of all time (on Rotten Tomatoes) would be nominated for Best Director. Let's hope the Oscars have more sense than the Golden Globes.
Fans are pissed there are no women nominated for Best Director.
Yeah, uh, Golden Globes? This is bullsh*t.
