Ah, the holidays. A time of giving, a time of sharing, and a time of explosive familial resentment ruining our unrealistic expectations. Your Thanksgiving 2017 horoscope is here just in time for you to start building up that resentment, throwing coals on the fire in your hearts that burn with envy over your siblings' perfect relationships, jobs, etc. If you don't feel ready to completely give up already, there's a lot in the stars to suggest you don't have to, but then again Thanksgiving is a sh*t show for most of us, and if you do decide to opt out of family time, you'll have plenty of friends to host a gathering with. The important transits in place for your Thanksgiving 2017 horoscope are as follows: sun in Sagittarius, Venus in Scorpio, and Mercury in Sagittarius. These are on the back of a new moon in Scorpio on Nov. 18, 2017, and earlier this month, Saturn trine Uranus, which created a shakeup in the status quo without rocking the boat too much.

That Saturn-Uranus aspect is why I suggested a possible gathering with friends instead of family during this holiday, because it supports a break from these traditions without burning them down.

Sun in Sagittarius

Having the sun in Sagittarius is perfect for Thanksgiving, when you're really trying to get into an attitude of gratitude. This transit brings out our inner optimist — the part of us that truly enjoys looking at the bright side — and revels in the power we feel within based on our core beliefs. With the sun in Sagittarius, we want to expand our horizons, to question, to philosophize with others, and to tackle things from new angles.

One thing to look out for under the influence of a sun in Sagittarius is the shadow side of this sign. When they believe they've discovered the answer to their philosophical questions, they stick to it stubbornly, refusing to acknowledge or consider any other perspective. Don't be this type at the Thanksgiving table. Nobody likes this person.

Venus in Scorpio

Venus in Scorpio is a strong indication that whomever you choose to spend the holiday with will be a powerful connection. This will be an evening with your closest friends and family members, and it's likely to bring you closer together. Venus in Scorpio is a good transit for emotional discussions, for understanding others better, and for long, in-depth conversations that can leave people feeling transformed.

What to watch out for? Power struggles. With Venus (the planet of relationships, love, and creativity) in the sign of Scorpio (the sign of sex, death, and power), these two energies can lead people to have a difficult time accepting their differences and wanting to control one another. Remember the key to getting along better isn't to control others, but to accept them for who they are.

Mercury in Sagittarius

Mercury in Sagittarius is a jovial, uplifting transit, but can lend itself to some intense debate. Under the influence of this transit, people tend to be a little careless in the their communication, saying whatever they want no matter the circumstances. You need to be wary in this case of whether you want to be right, or you want to be happy. Sometimes you cannot change the perspective of another person, and that needs to be okay. The only person whose thoughts, habits, and perspective you can control are those of yourself.

Overall, Thanksgiving can be tough because we do tend to get into political arguments, emotions can run high, and people strive to control one another; but if you treat this holiday like any other day, free of expectations, you'll likely have a fantastic one. Happy Thanksgiving, kiddos.
