Anonymous is the closest real life will ever come to having a justice league. And, yes, I just compared an amorphous group of hackers to superheroes because I really don't ever want to be targeted by Anonymous. Long live Anonymous.
Anyway, if you didn't know, Anonymous is a hacker organization committed to social justice with little if any central leadership. They have effectively launched attacks on the Church of Scientology, Westboro Baptist Church, child pornography sites and large corporations.
They are basically Internet vigilantes. Some people have a problem with them because, of course, they operates outside of the law, but few can deny that they are both effective in their methods and usually ethically pretty sound.
Well, now, one member of Anonymous has targeted ISIS Twitter accounts.
And how is he doing that? By making the accounts tweet porn.
As WauchulaGhost (the hacker in question) succinctly explained to the Washington Post, ISIS “doesn't like porn.” By "porn" it's mostly just naked women, but ISIS hates it. By tweeting out these images and doing things like changing their avatars to "I <3 Porn" he seeks to “diminish their presence online.”
So far, Wauchulaghost has been at it for two months. He has accessed and compromised 160 accounts.
As he explained, "The government really hasn't been doing enough especially on social media."
Anonymous is trying to pick up the slack.
