It's that time of year again!
Beloved potato chip brand Lay's just announced the three finalists for its annual "Do Us A Flavor" contest -- and soon, you'll be able to buy and try them. After scouring through fan flavor submissions, they've narrowed it down to a solid selection that officially hits stores Monday, July 24.
If you don't know about "Do Us A Flavor," basically, chip fans submit their flavor ideas to Lay's for the sweepstakes. The brand then narrows down the list and makes some of them IRL. After that, the three finalists are sent to stores so we can all vote for our favorite.
(Sadly, someone's genius Avocado Toast flavor idea did not make the cut.)
Here, let's take a look at what we can expect to find in our grocery store chip aisles come Monday.
1. Wavy Fried Green Tomato
This potato take on a classic Southern dish was submitted by Gregory Pope of Charlotte, North Carolina. One Food & Wine staffer called it "zesty and a little sweet."
I wonder if it'll compare at all to Canada's famed Ketchup flavor.
2. Kettle Cooked Everything Bagel With Cream Cheese
New Yorkers, this flavor – submitted by Lindsay Hoffman of Palm City, Florida – is of particular interest. Will it be anything like your local bagel shop's "everything"? Judging by reviews already online, I'm afraid not.
Delish's senior editor called it "underwhelming" and "light on the garlicky, salty flavor you'd expect from the breakfast staple."
But since it's kettle cooked, expect a delightful crunch.
3. Crispy Taco
I don't know about you, Crispy Taco-flavored potato chips sound amazing to me. I imagine a perfect balance of meaty, cheesy, and tomato-y goodness sending my tastebuds into overdrive.
Shoutout to Ellen Sarem of San Antonio, Texas for pitching this wonderful idea. (How did it not already exist?)
As for the real-life flavor, one Food & Wine staffer says you can even taste the lettuce, which makes me want to try it the most.
Again, all three flavors hit shelves on Monday, July 24.
