Transgender Girl Scout Shuts Down Bully By Selling Over 3,000 Cookies
Last month, a 9-year-old transgender Girl Scout from Illinois named Stormi went door to door selling cookies. At one house, the man who opened the door told her,
Nobody wants to buy cookies from a boy in a dress.
Stormi, who was born a boy but lives her life as a girl, was hurt by the man's cruelty.
Stormi's foster mom, Kim, told BuzzFeed,
She was like, 'Why am I not good enough?'
After a long conversation with her foster mom, however, Stormi decided she wasn't going to let the man win.
Instead, she decided to prove him wrong by selling as many Girl Scout cookies as humanly possible.
Hoping to donate boxes to other foster children in need, Stormi moved all her sales to Digital Cookie, an online shop for Girl Scout cookies. Her foster mom shared the page across social media and posted it to an online forum for parents of transgender children where it quickly got a lot of attention.
Before she knew it, Stormi got messages of support and love from people all over the country.
Kim said,
This is something I have been trying to instill in her for years. How worthy she is; who she is is OK. For her to be able to read all these messages that people are sending from around the world to support her, the love is just overwhelming.
Stormi's inspiring story was even picked up by two improv performers in New York City, who offered free admission to their January 29 show with proof of purchase of Stormi's cookies.
Thanks to all the support, Stormi sold more than 3,000 boxes of cookies. She even filled orders for people from Australia and Canada.
The amazing young girl told BuzzFeed,
I want kids like me to know they are perfect just the way they are. There are people all over the world that love you. Never give up because it does get better.
Aw.
Stormi's foster donation project ended, but you can still buy cookies (for yourself!) through mid-March. Head here to place your order.
