Steph Curry Said Ayesha Curry Friend Zoned Him On Their First Date
Even when Steph Curry was just a junior at Davidson College, he was still a big basketball star, but that apparently wasn't enough to get him out of the friend zone with Ayesha.
In an interview with Parents magazine, the couple told the story of how Steph's attempt at a kiss during their first date was a swing and a miss.
Ayesha said,
I mean, it was friend vibes… until I dodged his first kiss.
That was back in the summer of 2008. Steph was going on to his third year at Davidson, fresh off an NCAA Tournament that made him a household name for sports fans.
He made a trip to LA for the ESPY Awards and reached out to Ayesha, whom he'd met at a church group as a teen. At the time, Ayesha was pursuing an acting career in Hollywood, but she still wasn't ready to give Steph a fairytale ending.
She said,
He was in mid-conversation and came flying at my face like a thief in the night. So I was like, No. Then I thought, 'Oh, I didn't know this is what was happening'
Needless to say, Steph persisted. The result? A relationship that was so good they couldn't help but get married young.
The reigning NBA MVP said,
I was 23; she was 22. But I knew I had found the right woman and I wanted to start a life with her.
Now, the pair and their two kids are the first family of basketball. Meanwhile, Steph is still killing it on the court, and Ayesha Curry has landed a new TV show on the Cooking Channel.
All in all, the message is clear: Everyone who wants "an Ayesha Curry" should know it takes persistence.
