'Phelps Face' Is The Sassy New Meme Taking Over The Olympics

by Oliver McAteer

On Monday, August 8, 2016, the Phelps Face was born.

US Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps was seen pulling the most aggressive expression in the ready room while waiting to compete.

At one point, South Africa's Chad le Clos came in and pumped himself up by pretending to box, shaking his junk right in front of Phelps.

But nothing could distract him. Not even Olympic genitals.

The face was caught on live camera by NBC and one of the commentators said,

Oh my goodness, I have never seen anything like that in the ready room. He's standing right in front of Michael and look at his game face. Look! It's like he's growling like a dog. This is great television.

Twitter didn't know whether to be terrified or inspired.

Wow. What song do you think he was listening to?

Whatever it was -- it worked.

Phelps came in first in the 200m butterfly semifinal and qualified for the final.

The swimmer and his adorable family are fast becoming the most loved people at the Olympics.

His little son Boomer was stealing our hearts over the weekend with his patriotic attire and mini-game face.

Now we see where he gets it.
