As co-chair of the 2022 Met Gala, Blake Lively was expected to show up and show out. What I personally wasn’t expecting was Lively’s costume change in the first five minutes of the 2022 Met Gala.

The dramatic reveal came moments after Lively stepped onto the red carpet with Ryan Reynolds, her husband and fellow co-chair, on her arm. Her Atelier Versace gown paired with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry was architectural and breath-taking.

Designer Lorraine Schwartz collabed with Lively on the custom jewelry, including a copper tiara inspired by the Statue of Liberty, keeping with the theme, “America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Between the tiara and earrings, Lively sported more than 190 carats of diamonds.

While the jewelry and bodice were exceptionally opulent, the real star of the show was all that bustle. Can we talk about it? Because it’s *everything*.

Just when I thought I couldn’t fall any more in love with the look, Lively switched it up. She removed the gilded age-inspired bustle and swapped out her rose gold gloves to reveal an even more Statue of Liberty-esque look.

The gown clearly played on the Statue of Liberty’s patina green and bronze design and Lively seemed to love channeling Lady Liberty’s striking poses.

Her gown also pays homage to two other American icons: the Empire State Building and the celestial ceiling at Grand Central.

Lively’s glow was also customized. The Met Gala co-chair served up some bronze goddess glow thanks to a yet-to-be-released Charlotte Tilbury bronzer. “Blake’s look was inspired by warm-toned metals and copper,” her MUA for the evening, Kristofer Buckle, said via press release.
