The internet’s favorite It Girl, Emma Chamberlain made a grand appearance at the 2021 Met Gala. The YouTuber’s become a fashion darling in recent years, attending Paris Fashion Week with Louis Vuitton multiple times, so her Met Gala appearance is long-awaited. Chamberlain’s aesthetic has always bordered on playful and trendy. Through her YouTube channel, she’s heavily influenced how young people dress. And Chamberlain’s 2021 Met Gala dress was a prime look into the future of ~formal~ Gen Z fashion.

Chamberlain paid homage to her Gen Z fanbase with her 2021 Met Gala look. She came to slay in this high-low moment embodying the popular asymmetrical trend.

Despite the 2021’s Met Gala theme being “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” celebrating American fashion, Chamberlain turned to her favorite French designer Louis Vuitton. Chamberlain has long been a regular at the fashion house’s runways and has starred in one of its campaigns, so her choice isn’t super surprising.

Cutouts were prominent during New York Fashion Week, and they’re sure to be popular on the Met Gala steps. Chamberlain’s graphic, triangle cutout dress style is unique.

Let’s hear it for the back of the dress. Chamberlain is giving bra-top realness with this cut-out back. The chunky chain detail is just the cherry on top.

Nothing says luxury like dripping gold. Chamberlain went more playful by mixing silver and gold to create a sparkling pattern.

For her accessories, the YouTube star kept things simple. She donned circular dangling earrings and a pair of strappy heels.

When it comes to her high-fashion moments, Chamberlain likes to go heavy with her eye makeup — a strong departure from her usual, minimal look. But, celebrity makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan took the look even further, crafting an eye-catching makeup moment — courtesy of Byredo makeup — with this neon green eyeliner.

“The chic and cool vibe was the most important thing we wanted to come across,” celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko tells Elite Daily about the strategy for tackling Chamberlain’s Met Gala hair look. “We made sure the hair complimented her dress well and made the look all about the eyes.”

The stylist forwent any extensions for Chamberlain’s ‘60s-inspired hair look — and for good reason. “Keeping her hair short helped because you could see all of the details in the back of the dress,” says Polko. “We wanted to do something a little bit different, but still cool and seen in American Fashion.”

Polko also believes one small aspect of Chamberlain’s hairdo will make a big impact this fall. “The small flips (under or up) is something I suspect we will continue to see this Fall,” she says. “For hair tools, I used T3 Fit Dryer ($150, T3) and T3 Curl ID ($250, T3) — these are game changer products because they work quickly, efficiently.”

To achieve the look on your own, Polko used Aquage’s Uplifting Foam ($20, Aquage), CBD Medium-Hold Styling Gel ($26, Aquage), Finishing Spray ($22, Aquage), and the brand’s Dry Texture Finishing Spray ($24, Aquage). “I love Aquage products because I know the red carpet look will last all night long,” Polko says.
