I’m Not OK After Seeing Olivia Rodrigo's Stunning VMAs Dress

Experiencing some major jealousy that this dress is not in my closet!

Olivia Rodrigo went all out for her first VMAs appearance — to the point that I almost didn’t recognize her. For her 2021 VMAs look, Rodrigo wore a floor-length, strapless, red-and-pink gown. It was a bold choice, but similar to her 2020 Brit Awards dress, Rodrigo didn’t shy away from standing out, and it absolutely paid off.

Rodrigo’s dress captures her out-of-the-box fashion sense, mixing a classic silhouette with more fun draping and other elements. You truly cannot pin her down to one aesthetic; she’s always keeping fans guessing.

Rodrigo’s 2021 VMAs dress, more specifically, boasted a straight, strapless neckline and broad dark pink stripes — made from strategic draping — across the length of the dress.

Her dress hugs her body with a cute, mermaid-style flair at the bottom. The look is timeless as can be, while the sheer draping gives it a modern, almost psychedelic feel.

Don’t miss the corset detail on the back of Rodrigo’s 2021 VMAs dress. It adds a touch of the trendy regencycore aesthetic and reveals the impressive boning making up the gown.

For her makeup, Rodrigo stuck with her classic, bronzy-look. Her beloved smoked-out winged eyeliner adds an edge to the romantic look, as does her bold berry lip that matches her dress.

Rodrigo’s love of butterflies also made a red carpet appearance. Three large purple butterflies dangle from each of her ears, making up her only jewelry for her VMAs look.

Wearing red to a red carpet is a tale as old as time (kind of), but Rodrigo’s gown is definitely one for the books. The draping truly takes this peachy gown and turns it into a memorable VMAs moment.
