Powerful Short Film Shows What It Really Means To Be A Feminist
Yesterday, Emma Watson spoke to the United Nations and delivered an incredibly empowering speech on what being a feminist means to her.
The actress brought to light an important truth: That we, as a collective, need to talk about feminism. There are still so many myths and stereotypes surrounding the word.
Writer and director Inny Taylor shares a similar perspective as Watson. She created a short film titled “I Am Feminist,” in which a variety of women from various backgrounds discuss what feminism means to them.
Her goal was to incite a useful discussion to remove some of the misinformation around the subject.
In the description of the video, Taylor explains,
The idea was to not only humanize the current feminism movement but to celebrate….how far we have come. Though some statements may be gritty and challenging, the overall message is to have a voice as loud as one can possibly have and not feel the need to apologize for it.
So sing it loud, ladies, because being a woman — and demanding respect and equality — isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s something to be proud of. It’s something to celebrate.
Watch Taylor’s inspiring video, and share it with all of your female friends. Come to think of it, share it with your male friends too, because this is an issue that everyone needs to be educated on.
